Cloverfield:

I saw Cloverfield the day after it came out here. Never have I said this about a movie but, where most of my favorite movies make me want to get involved in the movie... Cloverfield actually made me feel as if I was IN the movie itself. If there was any way to make the movie experience better, would be if I saw it in an IMAX theater.

I'll write a review later (without trying to give away any details or suprises).

P.S. this was the first movie (since Jurassic Park) that I have seen, and wanted to see, twice while it was in the theaters.

I went to see Enchanted a couple of weeks ago, having been intrigued by its trailer. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, apart from typical Disney fluff with a twist. Well, I received that and then some. I rather liked the film as a whole, even though there were some parts that really could have been handled better, and I thought the satirical attitude was very nearly brilliant. References to popular Disney animations, especially Snow White, were made often. There's even a King Kong reference thrown in towards the end for that matter.
The movie naturally includes the standard share of singing, made even sillier by the fact that it is, for the most part, live action. However, I could not help but love the main character even for all her bubble-headedness. For those in the mood for romantic comedy, I would and do heartily recommend.

Comments/reviews about the two previous movies I saw in the theatre, El Orfanato and My Blueberry Nights, to follow later. :3

So, Saray and I went to see Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber From Fleet Street on saturday night, because A: we had nothing better to do and B: it was a surprise valentine's day thing i had planned but she guessed (can't keep secrets from her now can i?) so there was no point to wait until thursday:)

What is Sweeney Todd about, you may ask? Depp plays Sweeney Todd, a stranger who appears in London and opens up a barber shop above a pie bakery. What only a few people know is that he is in fact Benjamin Barker, a barber who was imprisoned and deported 15 years earlier by an evil judge (marvelously played by Alan Rickman) who fancied his wife. Making a fresh new start (or a clean shave if you will), Todd only wants one thing: revenge.

Now, if you decide to go and you are a fan of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton movies, you're likely not to be disappointed. It has that very typical Burtonesque (read:dark and quirky) atmosphere similar to other Burton movies like Corpse Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The main difference between these movies and Sweeney Todd doesn't lie in the atmosphere or storylines, but in the singing. I knew that this movie was a musical, but I had no idea that the song would only sometimes be interrupted by a line of dialogue or silence. It takes a while to get used to this if you are not used to watching musicals (like me) but after the first half hour, it's remarkably fun to watch. The entire cast really does their best at the singing, but as the movical plays on it is hard not to notice the relatively cheap and easy sounding lyrics. There's lots and lots and lots of repetition in them, sometimes good and other times painfully annoying, but luckily the quality of the cast's singing makes up for a lot.

That's actually also the only thing that mildly disturbed me while watching it. The rest was just plain fun! Johnny Depp is perfectly cast as the revenge brooding, never smiling barber and sometimes hylarious while not even trying to be funny. There are a few moments when his Jack Sparrow persona pops up, but well, who'se gonna complain about that, eh? Helena Bonham Carter makes an excellent counterpart as a cunning pie baker, head over heels for her Mr. Todd. Alan Rickman does not play the part of the sarcastic backfigure, but is promently evil as a powerful judge and seems to enjoy this very much.

All and all, Sweeney Todd is a well-done musical movie easily to be enjoyed by those who are a not so pleased with sweet and delicate songs about love and eternal happiness. It's dark, it's twisted, it's your regular Burton & Depp cooperation!

I loved the movie too love I think Johnny Depp is the only one that can make razors look like the Excalibur Razz
Besides that, I have nothing to reproach to the movie (maybe if the last scene was a bit more dramatic?), it gets 10/10 from me, and I found that the singing went along with the movie, it didn't sound "out of place", to put it this way.
I recommend it love

It's not what I meant >.> I meant they look like some legendary weapons made for heroes, yadayada.

I just saw Benjamin Gates & the book of secrets. Bullshit. Enigmas solved in a blink, some adrenaline, clever-looking plans (he gets to kidnapp ze president !?), action, blabla you know the kind. It was worse than National Treasure. Don't go see it unless you have free tickets.

Actually I have the illimited card, which I pay ~20 euro/month (60 RON = Romanian currency) and I can go to the cinema as much as I want beat eyelids So a ticket gets really cheap when you go 30 times in a month Laughing It's not like I paid 10 RON to see the movie, you see? That's why I don't regret that much seeing cheesy movies Laughing

i participated in a little action in the netherlands here a few weeks ago:) with buying two dvds from a specific type you could get a card which enables you to go to the cinema and pay for only one ticket instead of two:) of course it doesnt count for every cinema and for every movie, but with a little luck exactly for the movies we want to see ^^

oh, and for those who are interested, the teaser trailer for the upcoming Indiana Jones movie can be found here:

Finally Widow (France, 2008, original title Enfin veuve)
By Isabelle Mergault
With: Michèle Laroque, Jacques Gamblin, Wladimir Yordanoff

Anne-Marie is married, but in love with another man since 2 years. When he has to move to China because of work, he asks her to come with him and finally live together like they always dreamed to. Anne-Marie finds difficult to tell her husband about it; surprisingly, when she comes back home, she finds her entire family waiting for her to tell her that ...Gilbert died in a car accident.
Finally free to be with Léo, she cannot enjoy it, because a family member is always with her to comfort her, and she is actually less free than when she was married...

The entire movie is a total fun, the situations are hilarious, almost absurde and the actors' play adds even more to it. I couldn't stop from laughing.

Jumper
Another action-and-special-effects movie, about a guy that can teleport (and of course uses his powers not to save to world but to rob banks) and he gets the paladins (jumper chasers) after him. Of course there's a girl, lots of fights, jumps, stupid things (why the main character does often idiot stuff but he's the hero, while a secondary character does the right things and he's, well, secondary?), some "i love her and can't let her there" stuff, people betray each other etc. Anyway I've seen better movies of this kind. Unfortunately, Samuel L. Jackson can't save it. The only good thing about it is Hayden Christensen, he's quite cute.

Oh, I saw the poster and I found it cheesy, that's why I never went to see that movie... And besides, I don't like Travolta.

PS - I love you
It's about a girl that loses her husband (he dies of cancer at 35 years old). 3 weeks later she gets the first of the several letters that he had wrote for her to help her start over.
I heard that the book is shit, I never read it, but the movie is really good, touching and sometimes funny. To see with the girlfriend/boyfriend or, for girls, with the group of girlfriends.

Taken
I'll say it right away, this is one of the best movies I saw this year, it kept me stuck on my chair, I was so tense that I almost forgot to breathe at times Laughing
Liam Neeson is great love

Story: During a trip to Paris, Bryan's daughter is kidnapped by the members of an albanese gang specialised in women trafficking while his father is on the phone with her. He gets to talk to the kindappers and tells them to set her free right away or he'll use his "very particular abilities" to track them down and kill them. The man just laughs at his face and says "good luck". Which he shouldn't have said, in my humble opinion Twisted Evil

Won't say more than that, go see it!

My note: 10/10

10.000 B.C.

Another heroic nice looking but-we-forgot-to-do-our-homework movie. I mean, how stupid must one be to mix, in the same movie, whose action lasts a few months, both egyptians building pyramids and saber-teeth? bang head Oh, not to mention that when mamuths existed, horses didn't really look like nowadays horses, nor was there corn in Africa. Nuh huh I tell you.

Anyway, if you liked 300 (which has excuses for not following the history though), Tarzan and other movies of this kind (meaning lots of action, muscles, almost naked men and not so much talking), you might like this one too.

Oh. The main actor looks fuckable. Oops, I said it whistle giggle
